March 2016 Monthly Packing Event

Sometimes things are just meant to be.  Typically, we do not run an event with five people because we do not have enough people to fill a station, but what are you going to do when the message cancelling the event is not received?  You get creative!  A phone call from the janitor notifying us that we had people in the building waiting to pack was enough for us to throw on our shirt and hurry down.  Turned out to be a fun two hours with entertaining conversation. With only five packers, we managed to pack over 1,000 meals!  Not bad for a cancelled event!

KAHWM thanks you for your time and donations.

UNICEF reported that Malawi is facing the worst food crisis in nine years. The problem began last year during widespread flooding followed by a severe drought caused by El Nino. An estimated 2.8 million people are at risk of hunger. The majority of those people live in rural areas and rely almost exclusively

on farming. Compounding this crisis, the value of Malawi's currency has dropped causing sharp inflation of food prices, up to 200% on maize, a staple in the Malawian diet.
